Scientific Meetings Travel Grants - limited grants to enable early-career microbiologists to present their work at scientific meetings. Application form necessary. No retrospective applications accepted. Applications accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year.
President's Fund for Research Visits - grants to allow early-career lecturers, resident and employed in the UK or Republic of Ireland, to visit any other country to carry out research in a suitable laboratory in order to carry out a defined piece of research within an existing (or to develop a new) collaboration.
The visits may be of one to three month's duration. The award offers a maximum contribution of £3000 towards the cost of return travel, accommodation, subsistence and consumables in the host laboratory. Application form necessary. An award panel made up of members of SGM Council will consider applications. Application form necessary.

Heatley-Payne Travel Award - SGM members, who are within 5 years of being awarded their PhD, are invited to apply for a limited award of up to £3000 to present work at the 112th General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology and make a short research visit of up to three weeks at a laboratory in the USA.

Hayes-Burnet Travel Award - SGM members, who are within 5 years of being awarded their PhD, are invited to apply for a limited award of up to £3000 to present work at the Annual Scientific Meeting of the Australian Society for Microbiology and make a short research visit of up to three weeks at a laboratory in Australia.

Vacation Studentships - small awards to enable undergraduates to work on microbiological research projects for 6-8 weeks in the summer vacation before their final year. Applications must be made on behalf of named students by SGM members on the appropriate form. Closing date 17 February 2012
Practical Teaching Aid Awards - small grants to SGM members for developments likely to lead to an improvement in the teaching of any aspect of microbiology relevant to secondary or tertiary education in the UK.
There is no closing date, applications (on the appropriate form) will be considered during the period: 1 Jan - 31 Dec each year.
Public Engagement with Microbiology Awards - grants of up to £1000 available to SGM members to fund relevant science promotion activities.

Microbiology Outreach Prize - awarded annually to recognize and reward the delivery of high-quality outreach activities. Application form necessary.

International Development Fund - small grants to help develop microbiology, teaching or research, in developing countries, including funding visit by SGM member to deliver lecture and/or laboratory training. Applications by written submission to the Grants Office.

Seminar Speakers Fund - makes small grants to cover the travel and other expenses of up to two speakers on microbiological topics in annual departmental seminar programmes. Applications by written submission (no form) on a first come, first served basis.
Regional Meeting Grants - provides grants of up to £2000 to support regional microbiology meetings. Application form necessary.
