Meetings

The Society organizes regular scientific meetings, usually in the UK and Ireland. The sessions at each event are carefully planned to cover a wide range of topics at the cutting edge of microbiological research. The programmes are currently arranged by members of the Society's Groups and the Irish Branch, but from 2009 a new system will be in operation and the scientific content will be devised by five Divisions. Each meeting includes:

  • Symposia
  • Workshops and demonstrations
  • Offered oral presentations
  • Offered posters
  • Prize lectures
  • Trade exhibition
  • Social events

Makeover for SGM meetings

From 2009, Society meetings will have a new look. The scientific sessions over three and a half days will cover the latest topics in modern microbiology, within a framework of fewer parallel sessions in the mornings, standalone keynote lectures and afternoons packed with workshops, debates, demonstrations and mini-symposia catering for all areas of microbiological science. Poster-viewing will take place over a drink in the evenings. Career development and microbiology education will also be covered. The ever-popular Gala Dinner will retain its Tuesday evening slot.

Forthcoming SGM meetings

SGM holds two main meetings annually at different venues throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland. »
