Prokaryotic Microbiology Division
This Division provides a forum for the discussion of bacterial and archaeal microbiology. The remit of the four themes is as follows.
Microbial Evolution & Diversity
The biology of micro-organisms both in their natural habitats and when introduced into novel habitats. The theory and practice of classification, nomenclature and identification. The study of evolutionary relationships through phenotypes and genotypes.
Fundamental Microbiology
Underpinning, basic research into the biology of Bacteria and Archaea. To include physiology, biochemistry, metabolics, cellular interactions and molecular studies, investigation and analysis of the structural and functional organization of microbes, and their interactions with external factors, at all levels from the molecular to whole organisms and communities.
Translational Microbiology
Applied uses of microbes, including medical, industrial and biotechnological applications.
Infectious Disease
To provide a forum for clinical and research microbiologists (medical, dental or veterinary), to discuss the epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, prophylaxis and therapy of microbial infections. Topics will include infectious micro-organisms of man, animals and plants.
